Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Dr. Wicks conducts health disparities and family caregiving research. In addition, she mentors PhD nursing program students, is faculty counselor for the college’s nursing chapter of the Black Student Association, and Chairs the Collegiate Promotion and Tenure Committee for the College of Nursing. She is on the board of Mustard Seed, Inc., a nonprofit agency whose mission is to improve the education and quality of life of disadvantaged families and on the Board of Trustees for the Memphis Mental Institute, one of five state psychiatric hospitals in Tennessee. She has published articles in the Nephrology Nursing Journal (2011), the Journal of Religion and Health (2012), and Heart and Lung—The Journal of Acute and Critical Care (2008). Dr. Wicks is a former member of the NIH Healthcare Delivery and Methodologies Integrated Review Group Study section (2008–2011), listed in Who's Who among American Women (2005–2006), and on the editorial board of the Journal of Nursing Education. Inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2010, Dr. Wicks serves on the academy’s Culture Competence Expert Panel.
