Sharon L. Surrency, RN, BSN, MPH, is the Regional Nursing Director for Children's Medical Services (State of Florida Department of Health). This region serves a 23 county area of North Central Florida to include Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Gainesville and Ocala. Surrency is responsible for the health care and developmental services provided to children with special health care needs in this geographic area. Her career has been in pediatric and community health nursing. She has served as the elected Mayor/Commissioner of Hawthorne, Florida and has continued to be active in local political and community service activities. She currently serves on several local and statewide Boards and committees.  Surrency helped develop standards of care coordination for nurses who serve children with special health care needs. These standards were implemented statewide via the CMS Care Coordiantion Guidelines in Florida and will be available to other states for use in their Title V programs. She is the regional co-chair of the emergency preparedness response team. She received her ASN from Santa Fe Community College, her BSN from the University of Florida and her Masters in Public Health from the University of South Florida and most recently certification as a Faith Community Nurse. Surrency, a Florida native, is married and has four children.
