Suzanne Miyamoto, PhD, RN, FAAN is the Chief Policy Officer at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). With over a decade of policy experience, Dr. Miyamoto serves on the senior leadership team while overseeing and providing strategic guidance for the programmatic areas of health policy, higher education policy, government affairs, leadership progression, diversity and inclusion, strategic outreach as well as research and analytics. Additionally, she is the Convener for the Nursing Community, a coalition of 64 national nursing organizations that collaborate on a wide spectrum of healthcare policy issues.
Dr. Miyamoto is an adjunct assistant professor at Georgetown University, School of Nursing and Health Studies. Previously, she held policy positions at the state and federal level with the National Institutes of Health and the State Commission on Patient Safety for the Michigan Health and Safety Coalition. Currently, she is a Senior Associate Editor for the journal of Policy, Politics & Nursing Practice.
Dr. Miyamoto received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Women in Government Relations, Academy Health, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the American Nurses Association. Dr. Miyamoto is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and an Honorary Friend of the National Institute of Nursing Research.
