Dr Knudtson is executive director of student health services at the University of California Santa Cruz Health Center in Santa Cruz, California. She is also a professor of clinical nursing at the University of California, Irvine. Dr Knudtson earned a doctorate in public health nursing at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. She has been the recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse fellowship and a Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Primary Care Health Policy fellowship. Dr Knudtson has served as president of the American College of Nurse Practitioners and has held a number of national committee memberships. She has received numerous awards including the Nurse Practitioner of Distinction Award for the State of California and the Nurse Practitioner Excellence Award for 2005 from the North American Menopause Society. Dr Knudtson was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2008. Dr Knudtson is the coeditor of the ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner Review and Resource Manual, 1st edition. She is also the author or coauthor of numerous peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and education materials.
