Dr. Reed was also the Head of the Local Technical Assistance & Training Branch within the Division of Public Health. In 2008 she received the ANA's Pearl McIver Award for Public Health Nursing and was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing. She has twice served as president of the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing and chair of the Quad Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations. Dr. Reed served as Chair of the committee to revise the Scope and Standards of Public Health Nursing for the American Nurses Association. She also served as a co-guest editor of a special edition of the Journal of Public Health Nursing devoted to use of the Public Health Nursing Competencies adopted by the Quad Council; she led the effort to develop the competencies during her previous tenure as Quad Council Chair in 2001-2002. Within North Carolina, Dr. Reed has served as the division lead in developing a system to accredit local health departments which, through legislative action in 2005, is now required for all local health departments in the state. Because of her role in that effort, she served on the Standards Workgroup of the Exploring Accreditation initiative also funded by RWJF and is now on the Standards Workgroup for the national Public Health Accreditation Board. Dr. Reed has also served as the division lead in the effort to secure a new health information system to meet the needs of both the Division of Public Health and the 85 local health departments in the state.
