Janice Smolowitz, EdD, DNP, is the senior director of education, research, and practice at Mount Sinai Hospital. In this position she is responsible for the operational management of nursing education, nursing research, and professional practice. She collaborates with clinical directors in assuming responsibility for competency of nursing staff, advanced practice clinician credentialing, patient care standards, research and evidence based practice to promote and influence performance improvement within nursing practice. Dr. Smolowitz provides leadership for design and implementation of staff development which includes:orientation, ongoing staff education, implementation of the nurse residency program, development of leadership and managerial skills, as well as student experiences and interrpofessional practice initiatives. Dr. Smolowitz has been an invited member to several national organizations including the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) Practice Doctorate Nurse Practitioner Entry-Level Competencies Competency Committee (2006). She serves as a member of the New York State Board of Nursing where she is the Chairperson of the professional conduct committee. Most recently, she has served as a member of the workgroup to revise the ANA Scope and Standards for Practice, 3rd edition, 2015. Dr. Smolowitz is a Adult Nurse Practitioner and Diplomate in Comprehensive Care. She has practiced as an Adult Nurse Practitioner for 18 years in primary adult health and for nine years in Movement Disorder Neurology.
