Dr. Murphy is a board certified family nurse practitioner and former social worker with extensive clinical and leadership background in family, school, and community health issues; particularly among underserved populations. She has served the community in a variety of nursing roles and has worked internationally implementing leadership and management strategies in rural health posts (Senegal, West Africa 1990-1992). She is now focused on facilitating the professional development of emerging nurse leaders with innovative didactic and experiential learning, mentorship, self-awareness, self-efficacy and communication strategies.
She is Chair, National Advisory Committee for the National Center on Children's Vision and Eye Health, serves on the Board of Directors for Prevent Blindness Texas, and Prevent Blindness America's Public Health Committee. She formerly served on the Board of Directors, National Association of School Nurses. Her leadership has earned her honors from the Wisconsin Public Health Association, Milwaukee District Nurses Association, Milwaukee Board of School Directors, and Wisconsin Association of School Nurses. She is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship (2004-2007) and was nominated as a Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leader (2012).
