Dr. Catherine Garner has a blended career that includes executive positions in both health care delivery systems and academia. She is presently Acting Provost and Dean of Health Professions for American Sentinel University, an online for-profit accredited University. Prior to that, she was Provost/Dean at the International University of Nursing and Chief Operating Officer for the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts, West Indies. Dr. Garner has held senior leadership positions in three publicly traded companies: Vice President of Academics for the Health Care Divisions at Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ:CECO), one of the largest publicly traded education companies, with 84 schools and over 150,000 students; Vice President of Workforce Development for HealthStream (NASDAQ:HSTM), which provides online learning to over a million professionals in over a quarter of the nation's hospital systems; and Dean of Health Sciences and Nursing at the University of Phoenix (NASDAQ:APOL) from 2000-2002.
She holds bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from Vanderbilt University, a masters in Public Administration, and has a doctorate in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and is a graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellowship Program.
