Karen Dorman Marek, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN is the Bernita ‘B’ Steffl Professor Of Geriatric Nursing and currently is Principal Investigator on a NIH funded study testing a home care medication management program for frail older adults. She has worked in the development of community-based nursing practices for most of her nursing career. Her major expertise in is the area of community-based long term care. Before joining the faculty at ASU she was a Professor of Nursing and Director of the Self Management Science Center, a NINR funded P20 center, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In addition, she was an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri and Executive Director of Senior Care, a home healthagency operated by the School of Nursing that specialized in care of older adults. While in Missouri she was Principal Investigator of a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) funded grant to test a community-basedlong term care program called “Aging in Place”. She is an alumnus of the RWJ Nurse Executive Fellows Program 2000 cohort. Other positions she has held include Manager of Patient Services at Visiting Nurse Service in Akron, Ohio and faculty at the University of Pennsylvania where she taught community health nursing.
