As chief nursing officer and director of ambulatory services, Regina S. Cunningham is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and improving the delivery of all nursing and ambulatory care services to both adults and children receiving care at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. In addition, Dr. Cunningham is an active member of the supportive care research group at the institute. Her research interests include factors influencing outcomes in patients receiving cancer treatment and cancer survivorship. Dr. Cunningham is particularly interested in the role that oncology nurses play in improving outcomes in these populations. Dr. Cunningham also is an Assistant Professor, Family Medicine – Research Division at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey / Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Dr. Cunningham has 28 years of oncology nursing experience. She has spent the past 17 years in leadership roles, including clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager, and chief nursing officer.
Dr. Cunningham received a BSN from The College of Mount St. Vincent, a MA from New York University, a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University School of Nursing. She is certified as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN) by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corp.
