Mary Newell currently holds the position of Nurse Facilitator for the Kent School District located in Kent, Washington. She is the Primary Health Officer for the school district performing identification, assessment and evaluation of nursing care services provided to both general and special education students within 41 schools in both suburban and urban areas, supervising 30 registered nurses and 50 unlicensed health care providers. There are approximately 27,000 students and 3,000 staff members within the district. Mary provides the orientation and staff development in-services for nursing and unlicensed health service personnel. She is the primary administrator for the Tobacco Settlement Grant, the Seattle-King County Public Health and Group Health Cooperative - Kent School District Immunization Collaboration Program, the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Program, and First Aid/ CPR/ AED Program. In addition, she serves as the district liaison to the Seattle-King County Public Health Department. She authored a chapter on HIV AIDS for the Individualized Healthcare Plans for the School Nurse textbook, 2005. Mary received the honor of Outstanding School Nurse - Asthma Management Program from the National School Nurse Association and nominated as Public School Nurse of the year from the March of Dimes. Mary also currently serves as adjunct faculty at Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University in their Continuing Education Departments, and at Green River Community College in the Nursing Program. Mary sits on the Board for Multi-Care Medical Center for Covington and is on the planning team for new hospital construction. Mary Newell came to the Kent School District in 2001 from Highline Community College where she served as the Director of the Nursing Program. She currently holds the position at Highline Community College of Professor Emeritus. She was a Robert Woods Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow 2006-2009, and has served two terms on the Alumni Board chairing the Nominations Committee.
