As of July, 2013, will be Vice President for Nursing Affairs and Dean, School of Nursing at Oregon Health & Science University. Previously, Interim Provost and Carol Kuser Loser dean and professor of nursing at The College of New Jersey. Dr. Bakewell-Sachs is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner, with expertise in prematurely born infants and primary care of children born prematurely. As a faculty member, she taught in baccalaureate and nurse practitioner programs. She serves on the March of Dimes Foundation Nurse Advisory Council and is an expert faculty member for the Vermont Oxford Network. Dr. Bakewell-Sachs is neonatal editor for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing. She has published and given presentations on discharge management, late preterm and other infant topics, and nursing issues. 2007-2013, Dr. Bakewell-Sachs served as program director for the RWJF New Jersey Nursing Initiative, a multi-million dollar program based at the NJ Chamber of Commerce. The NJNI strategic areas of work include a faculty preparation program that will produce 40 master's prepared and 21 PhD prepared nurse faculty by 2015, academic and academic-practice partnerships to transform nursing education, development of a virtual academic resource center providing support to graduate students in scholarly writing, leadership development and collaboration with the NJ Action Coaltion in support of achieving the IOM Future of Nursing recommendations in NJ. Dr. Bakewell-Sachs will be inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing at the October, 2013 meeting.
